Aberdeen (in Scottish Obar Dheathain ; in Scots Aiberdeen ) , third town of Scotland, located in the North-East of the Great Britain, is the European capital of the Pétrole. Since 1891, Aberdeen has officially the statute of city.

The center which is called Aberdeen City comprises monuments dating from the times victorienne and medieval. The city accommodates one of the oldest universities of the world with the Sorbonne and Saint Andrews. Medicine and theology were taught there very early.

The university and the cathedral Saint-Machar are in the north of the old city, close to banks of an old river with Saumon, the Don. The mouth of this river remains a place of strolls pleasant in spite of the industrial activity of which a paper factory, using the rich person source of wood of the Highlands, especially with Inverurie. Aberdeen also accommodated an industry of the now late Laine. The old small village of fishermen to the mouth of Dee always exists and is called Footdee . It shelters pretty low houses designed to protect itself from the wind and storms. A remainder of similar village and quite as charming is located close to Brig' o' Don.

In the south of the city, the Dee river is used as habitat for the otters. But thanks to its port, Dee is more known for its dolphins and whales which rather frequently visit it. Many volunteers record the appearances there in order to make protect the east coast (they have a magazine and an Internet site). The port is the starting place for the ferries which go to the islands the Shetland S and the Orkneys, only means of transport for the vehicles and the provisions in this moved back place of Scotland.

Cut off from its rocky outcrop vis-a-vis the North Sea, the castle of Dunnotar, built in XIVe century is with a few kilometers in the south of Aberdeen. He is more inhabited only by the birds of sea but deserves one strolls.

The city has a international airport in the industrial city of Dyce where are installed the majority of the oil companies, like BP. There is also another district, Altens, where other companies are still found, like the Shell. To try to develop the front city, close suburbs, Westhill, also accommodates companies, such Technip (in the past Coflexip Stena).

Inside even of the city, close to the buildings of Marathon Oil, there are the remainders of one of the greatest careers of Granit to open sky of Europe. It is a large hole filled with water which was formerly used to draw the stones from construction.

The back-country, and more particularly the valley of Dee, comprise buildings in Granit red or pink. Cults, suburbs of Aberdeen, is a rather smart place where one still finds houses victoriennes.

Every year, in the park of Hazelhead, there are Highland Game S of which most known place in the back-country with Braemar has, where the Reine goes traditionally every year.

Aberdoniens speak the Doric, a Patois near to the language immortalized by Robert Burns in the years 1789.
