Abel Pacheco of Espriella (born the December 22nd 1933, in San Jose) was the President Costa Rica of the May 8th 2002 with the May 8th 2006.

Member of the PUSC (Partido Unidad Social Cristiana), doctor psychiatrist, was during many years director of the psychiatric national Hospital, then Député of the PUSC of 1998 with 2002. It is while being appointed that it carries the internal elections of its party and becomes candidate with the presidency. He was elected with the second turn (by the first time in 60 years), in April 2002, with 58% of the voices.
