Abdullah Ibrahim

Abdullah Ibrahim , of her true name Adolph Johannes Brand , also known under the pseudonym of Dollar Brand (of a mark of Cigarette S popular), born in 1934 with the Cape (South Africa), is a pianist of Jazz and South-African type-setter.

Biography

Become Abdullah Ibrahim in 1968, Adolphe Johannes " Dollar" Brand, born in the Cape on October 9th, 1934 and classified " métis" by the laws of the Apartheid, is most famous of the South-African jazzmen and its music reflects the identity complexity of its country, just like its patronym can evoke the original kaleidoscope. (...) With the beginning of the year 60 (...) Dollar Brand and Sathima Bea Benjamin choose Europe, and in Zurich the musical destiny of Brand takes form: Duke Ellington notices the pianist and the singer at the time of a concert and decides to present it to Reprise Records…
