Abdul Malik II (Samanides)

' Abdul Malik II was one to amir Samanides (999). Its short reign sees the fall of the State samanide. He was the son of Nuh II.

In February 999, the brother of Abdul Malik Mansur II is deposited and plugged. He is then named emir by Fa' iq and the general Bektuzun, the two people who reversed her brother and who have the majority of the capacities of the State. The inversion of Mansur is used like pretexts by Mahmûd de Ghaznî to still conquer the remainders of the Khorassan to the hands of Samanides. Bektuzun and Fa' iq, together with the leader of the Kouhistan, Abu' l-Qasim Simjuri, however, are considered to be too powerful by Mahmûd. It thus makes peace with them spring 999, keeping Balkh and Herat. The allies violate peace by attacking the rear-guard of the army of Mahmud. The forces of Mahmud remain however intact, and the hostilities begin again. Mahmud demolishes the allies close to Merv and consequently seizes all the grounds in the south of the Oxus. It gains also the honesty of the Chaghaniyan and other small States in the north of Oxus which were up to now the vassal honest ones of Samanides.

In this stage, Abdul Malik and Fa' iq (which are joined later by Bektuzun) try to gain enough time to renew an offensive against Mahmud. However, Fa' iq dies soon, and at the same period the Qarakhanides under Nasr Khan launch an invasion. Vis-a-vis the hostility of its subjects, Abdul Malik is without assistance against the Turkish attack. Bukhara is occupied without combat, and Abdul Malik is made prisoner. Although Ismail Muntasir, the brother of Abdul Malik, wanted to regain some Samanides territories temporarily during the following years, the State samanide is actually abolished.
