Abdoulaye Wade

Abdoulaye Wade (Kébémer, May 29th 1926) is a politician Senegal board. It is, since April 1st 2000, president of the Senegal.

Biography

Abdoulaye Wade is the younger brother of the writer Moustapha Wade.

It follows a mathematical course to France (mathematics elementary and higher than the Lycée Condorcet, Paris 9th) then moves towards the right and becomes lawyer with Besancon. It is also titular of a doctorate in right and economic scenes of the Université of Grenoble. Wade briefly practices the lawyer trade in France before returning to Senegal to plead at the bar of Dakar and to teach with the Université.

Wade forms the Senegalese Democratic party (PDS) in 1974 and is elected with the National Assembly in 1978. Wade was minister of state between April 1991 and October 1992 and March 1994 and 1998. It was presented without success to the presidential elections of 1978, 1983, 1988 and 1993, before finally gaining the poll of 2000 vis-a-vis the outgoing president Abdou Diouf.

Until the victory of the PDS combined with the alliance of Moustapha Niasse, Wade must cohabit with a socialist National Assembly.

Wade is one of the principal promoters of the Nouveau partnership for the development of Africa ( NEPAD ), a Panafrican project aiming inserting Africa in the world commerce and at releasing themselves from the assistantship.

In 2001, a news Constitution establishes a quinquennial mandate (5 years) (before the mandate was septennial, that is to say 7 years) starting from the end of the current mandate of president Wade.

Abdoulaye Wade is married with a Frenchwoman, Viviane Vert and father of two children, Karim and Sindiély. His/her daughter Sindiély, assistant special of the Head of the State, took part in the rally Paris-Dakar in 2005 as a racing driver. His/her Karim son is president of the National agency for the Organization of the Islamic conference. Wade is called Gorgui (i.e the old man, in language wolof).

Abdoulaye Wade was high with the row of Citizen of honor of the town of Lyon and received the title doctor honoris causa of the Université of Lyon the March 19th 2005. It is also Honorary doctor of the Université of Franche-Comté.

At the time of the presidential election of February 25th, 2007, Wade is re-elected, as of the first turn, vis-a-vis 14 candidates, with 55,79% % of the voices.

Abdoulaye Wade is Commandeur about the Merit (Senegal) and Large Officer of the Légion of honor (France).
