Abdel Salam Aref

Abdel Salam Aref (Arab: عبدالسلامعارف) (born in 1921 with Baghdad, dead the April 13rd 1966) was the president of the Iraq of 1963 with 1966.

He played a determining role with the baasists in the revolution panarabe against the general Kassem who took place the February 8th 1963. He was first of all the president of the National council of command of the revolution before being confirmed in his functions of Head of State the November 20th 1963. Aref being nasserist, it is quickly in conflict with the members of the Baath party.

It found death in an accident of Hélicoptère in the south of Iraq, and his/her brother Abdul Rahman Arif replaced it.
