Abdel Abdel-Mehdi

Abdel Abdel-Mehdi or Adil Abd Al-Mahdi (rear RTL عادلعبدالمهدى), born in 1948 with Baghdad, is one of the new vice-presidents of the Republic, with Tareq Al-Hachemi, since the installation of the Iraqi State which followed the elections of January 2005.

Biography

Wire of a combatant of the guerilla of 1920, it enters the Parti Baath at the beginning of the Années 1960, but separates some in 1964. Imprisoned for its political activities, it is exiled in France in 1969. There, it was responsible for the French Institut of the Islamic studies. It also had four children, all French citizens.

It obtained a Doctorate in economy and also studied political sciences.

He was the representative of the Supreme council of the Islamic revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) in Iran in 1992-1996. He is president of the SCIRI, which adhered to the unified Iraqi Alliance.

He intervened several times like mediator in the crisis relating to the nuclear research in Iran.

Career in the rebuilding

  • Assistant of Abdul Aziz al-Hakim in the government council which collaborated with the provisional allied Autorité .
  • Minister for Finance in the temporary government of Iyad Allaoui (It was in fact the candidate of the SCIRI at the post of Prime Minister, in the transition government, but left the place to Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, after compromises inside the Iraqi unified Alliance , on February 15th, 2005).
  • He was vice-president since April 2005, and was thus renewed in April 2006.
