The revolt of Abd Allah Ben az-Zubayr
Abd Allah Ben az-Zubayr did not have any political activity during the reign of Muawiya Ier, but with the accession with the capacity of Yazid Ier, he refused to make allegiance with the new caliph. After the battles of Kerbala and the death of Husayn it turned over to the Hedjaz where it autoproclama true caliph. It then started to reinforce its position and for this reason a governor with Koufa named. Quickly it establishes its capacity on all the Iraq, Arabia of the South and even part of the Syria and Egypt. It profited largely from the support of the wearied populations of the domination omeyyade. Yazid tried to invade Hedjaz, but its sudden death put an end to this countryside leaving the clan of the omeyyades in situation of civil war. That divided the Moslem empire into two part having each one its caliph. The civil war had settled. Zubayr lost Egypt and what remained of Syria to the profit of Marwan I {{er}}. These events combined with the revolt of the kharidjites in Iraq. Zubayr kept the control only of Hedjaz. Finally the caliph Abd Al-Malik, sent his general Hajjaj Ben Youssef to join together the Moslem empire. Hajjaj overcame Zubayr and killed it, decapitated it and crucifia its corpse (692) thus restoring the control of Omeyyades on the Moslem empire.
