Abd Al-Rahman Al-Charqawi
rear-Rahman Abd ach-Charqawi (in Arab rear RTL عبدالرحمنالشرقاوي) is an Egyptian writer born in the governorship of Al-Minufiyah, in the north of the Cairo, in 1920 and deceased in 1987. It is one of the creators of the modern Arab novel.
Born in a village located in the delta from the the Nile, he studies with the Faculty of Law of the capital before working in journalism. He reaches the celebrity with its first novel, the ground (Al-Ard, 1954) regarded as traditional of the modern Arab literature. In a realistic style, it depicts the difficult life of the peasants of a village of the Delta of the Nile and their contentions with the authorities which want to build a road which charcuterait their grounds. The realizer Youssef Chahine drew a film in 1969 from it which contributed to the diffusion of the book throughout the Arab world.
Rear-Rahman Abd ach-Charqawi is one of the first Egyptian intellectuals to use the platform which journalism offers to him to diffuse its ideas, preaching in favor of the democracy and the equality between citizens. It favorably accommodates the revolution which puts a term at Egyptian monarchy in 1952, but will move away then from the new leaders, disappointed by the authoritarian abuse of the new mode which abolishes the political parties and sets up a worship of the personality around the president Gamal Abdel Nasser.
It turns then to the theater, writing some of the first parts of the Egyptian repertory to use a language modern and close to the spoken language, although always in worms. Among his most famous parts, one can quote: a beautiful disaster (Ma' sâa jamila, 1962), the young person Mahran (Al-Fata Mahran, 1965) and Husseyn the revolutionist (Al-Husseyn na' ran). This last part is prohibited of representation, but it is about an exception in a course where he continues to exert an important influence on the intellectual life of his country until his death. He also writes a second novel, the by-paths (Ach-Chawari Al-Khalfiya, 1959) and several tests on religious questions.
Rear-Rahman Abd ach-Charqawi was rewarded by several bid prices by the Egyptian government for alive sound, in spite of its differences in opinion with the mode. In 1979, it is one of the prizes winner of the Prix Lénine for peace, in recognition of the vein realistic-Socialist of his most famous novel.
