Abdülmecit II

Abdülmecit II (May 29th, 1868 - August 23rd, 1944) was the 101ème and last Caliph of the Muslim world (1922-1924) and 37ème chief of the Othoman Dynastie, of 1922 to 1944. Its function was only nun, the sultanate having been removed by the republican Mustafa Kemal in November 1922. He was elected caliph in November 1922 by the Grande Turkish National Assembly with Ankara after the deposition of the last sultan, his cousin Mehmed VI. In March 1924, it was in its turn deposited and was exiled in France. He died in August 1944 with Paris, then was buried with Médine (Saudi Arabia).

He is also an important name of the Turkish painting of the beginning of the 20th century.
