Abbreviations in genealogy
In work of Genealogy, as well on behalf of professionals as on behalf of private individuals, of the Abbreviation S and Sigle S are used in a standard way. Here is a nonexhaustive list:

Very many contemporary French genealogists write family names in capitals and, even in a written text, state them before the first names. However, these two uses are far from being divided by the Anglo-Saxon genealogists.
So accents were introduced into the modern C-W communication of the first names and names, they are often indicated, even if they were non-existent in the denominations of time.

Many genealogists disadvise the use of abbreviations formally, would be this only for reasons of good indexing and good referencing.
