Abbiategrasso is a Italian city of approximately: 30000 inhabitants, located in the province of Milan and in the area of Lombardy.

Geography

Abbiategrasso is located in the plain of the Po, to approximately 22 km of Milan and 38 km of Pavia.

History

The history of the city goes back to the Roman epoch. Its name indicates that it was on a territory called fatty valley . In a document of 1304 one finds the first reference to the name Habiate which dicitur Grasso which little by little was transformed into Abbiategrasso .

April 30th, 1524, during the wars of Italy, the knight Bayard is mortally wounded in Abbiategrasso by protecting the retirement from the French Army.
