the abbey with the Holy Ladies , first Abbey Benedictine E for Holy women of the area of (Charente-Maritime), was founded in 1047 per Geoffroy Martel, count d' Anjou. Aliénor of Aquitaine was a generous donor, the abbess, Agnès de Barbezieux, being her relationship. This abbey is Romance E of the poitevin type with a Nef counterthrust by two quite enlightened sides and a bell-tower at square base support of an alongside circular tower of pinnacles to the angles. The tender stone allows a rich person ornamentation carved with in particular the Supplice of holy Eutrope and holy Christelle . During the 745 years of monastic presence, the architectural additions were numerous.

The abbey is located on Right Bank of the Charente beside the Arc of Germanicus or of the church Saint-Palate.

Today, the abbey with the Ladies accommodates the academy of Holy and many cultural events. The arts center of the Abbey to the ladies is member of the European network of the arts centres of meeting. (40 members in Europe today)
