Abbey of the Sacred Heart of Oriocourt
This monastery of sisters bénédictines of the Congrégation of Solesmes is a foundation of the Abbey of the Flavigny-on-Moselle, itself girl of the antique founded Abbaye Saint-Eustase of Vergaville in 966. It is in 1860 that the first sisters (less than one ten) settle with Oriocourt, the Moselle, France in the old castle of Rocheret (18th century). A boarding school is open since 1860. During the Franco-German war of 1870, the abbey shelters a hospital of the Red Cross. It will be also the case during the First World War. The construction of the vault begins in 1880. It is completed and bénite in 1892. In 1907, the monastery is set up in abbey. About 1930, the abbey counts about thirty moniales. During the Second world war, the sisters of Oriocourt are expelled on November 18th by the German authorities, thus sharing the fate of the population of Saulnois. At the end of 1945, the community is reinstalled in a dilapidated monastery. The boarding school of young girls reopens however as of the autumn, to close definitively in 1955 In 1980, the monastery counted eighteen moniales. A layer breeding contributes to the resources of the monastery.
