Abbey of the Mount-Cassin

The abbey of the Mount-Cassin is located at the top of the mount éponyme, to 80 km in the west of Naples, in Italy.

Founded by Benoit de Nursie in 529, it is the cradle about the Bénédictins. It is used as retirement with sovereigns and pontiffs such as the prince frankly Carloman, brother of Pépin the Brief, the king lombard Ratchis (with its family), and Saint Gregoire. Containing immense richnesses including one invaluable library (Didier, abbot of 1058 with 1087 makes come from Byzance of the Byzantine enluminés books), the latter is partly placed under the protection of Rome, with a gallery of invaluable tables.

The abbey, several times threatened during the invasions and of the wars, is plundered, ransacked and burned by of Lombards of the duke Zotton. Rebuilt only at the beginning of the 8th century after one period of disorders in Italy (especially related to Lombards), the abbey again is partly destroyed and set fire to by pirate Sarrasins (844), then in 1030 by Normands which start to invade the Southern Italy.

More recently, with the beginning of the year 1944, it is destroyed by the allied bombardments (Bataille of the mount Cassin).

It for summer has rebuilt with the identical one.
