Beer Trappist of Sept-Fons

About 1890, Dom Sebastien, abbot of the Mount of Cats become also abbot of Sept-Fons in 1887, decide to open a brewery to reinflate the abbey. It was a bet dared in an area more accustomed to the wine, and even if the produced beer, a beer of low fermentation of quality, is rewarded by medals with several contests (gold medal with the exposure of the French breweries of Paris in 1891, gold medal of the Academy of Science and industrial arts of Brussels, and large diploma of honor of the international contest of Brussels in 1892), the brewery which has a capacity of 40  000 hl is a financial drain for the community which employs the many laic ones.

Incompetent to ensure financial balance of it, undergoing the by-effect laws of 1901 and 1904, the abbey is repurchased in 1904 by the company “ brewery of seven fons ”. The company preserves the quality of the beer, which still gained distinctions (of which a gold medal in Paris in 1906), but will cease its production about 1935.
