Abbey of Payerne
The abbey one is a religious building of the town of Payerne. She is regarded as the largest Romance church of Suisse. An adjacent part at the building - the museum - was largely damaged by a fire in 1987.
History
In 965, the monastery of Payerne develops following its tender with the abbot of Cluny. The construction of the building begins about the year 1000 for the nave; It was built with the site of the Paterniaca villa (which gave its name to the town of Payerne) and which itself was built in IVe century.The kings of Burgundy then the Germanic emperors will make there many gifts, it until the Protestant reform and the expulsion of the monks in 1565.
Structure
The architecture of abbey is regarded as Romance, and is built according to a diagram clunisien. Many elements come however from a Gothic inspiration.
