Abbey of Épau

The Abbaye of Epau , located on the commune of Yvré-l' Évêque was founded in 1229 by the queen Bérangère de Navarre, widow of the king Richard Lion-hearted.

She was burnt during the Guerre One hundred Year old then partially rebuilt as from 1400 and remained in activity until the Revolution.

Acquired in 1959 by the General advice of the Sarthe, it was the subject of a long restoration in a strict respect of its architectural qualities.

Institutional and cultural place, the Abbey accommodates in particular the Festival of Épau organized under the aegis of the General advice in May.
