Abbey Saint-Georges de Boscherville

The abbey Saint-Georges de Boscherville is in the commune of Saint-Martin-with-Boscherville, in Seine-Maritime. The church Abbatiale is of Romance style.

History

The abbey was built XIIe and 13th century on the site of an old pagan temple. Archaeological Fouille S companies in 1981 revealed the presence of a Fanum Gallic of the end of the Ier front century J. - C. and a Christian funerary vault of the 7th century.

The abbey founded by Raoul de Tancarville, Chamberlain of the duke of Normandy, comprised a Chapelle and a Collégiale.

In 1113, monks Benedictines come from the Abbaye of Saint-Évroult (Orne) to replace the Chanoine S.

In 1235, the Voûte of the Nef out of frame is replaced by a Gothic stone vault.

During the Wars of religion, the abbey is ransacked three times by the Huguenot S: in 1562, 1570 (chapter house) and 1590 (home of the abbot).

In 1659, the abbey is reformed by the Mauristes.

Under the Revolution, the municipality of Saint-Martin-of-Boscherville decides to use the abbey church Saint-Georges for the practice of the Culte, the Saint Martin's day church being considered to be too small and being offset.

At the time of excavations, a splendid stick of engraved and punched brass abbot was found, dating from the beginning of the 13th century.
