Abbas Abad

Abbas Abad عباساباد|Abbās Ābād is one of the 112 districts of Teheran, Iran. This district is notable for the premises of the undertakings which are installed there; and also for the largest mosque of Iran (still in construction), called Mosallā-e Tehran .

It is the American architect Louis Kahn which conceived the Development plan of Abbas Abad in the years 1970 on ordering of the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. A modern district should have been built in this part of Teheran, which would have had the name of Shāhestān Pahlavi . This district was intended to be a district reserved for the government, the embassies and modern dwellings. This project forever considering the day because of problems of budget and the Iranian Revolution. The only thing which in remainder is the highway Jahān kudak (called today Haghani ), which would have to connect the new city to the remainder of Teheran.
