Abbaretz

Abbaretz ( Abarèt in Gallo) is a common French, located in the department of the Loire-Atlantique and the area Pays of the Loire.

The inhabitants of the commune are called the Abbarois and the Abbaroises .

Geography

  • Located at the north of Nantes at 50 km and 80 km in the south of Rennes, the commune is more precisely to 7,5 km in the east of Nozay, on the road D 2, before this one does not skirt the " Forest of Arche" before reaching Meilleraye-of-Brittany, with ten km.

About the 8th century, the Paroisse of Abbaretiacum depended on the Régaire S of the bishop S of Nantes: it had for lord the bishop himself. About the 10th century, the lords of Châteaubriant indeed take possession of the territory of Abbaretz: they inserted Abbaretz in the prerogative that they constituted with one their puînés (wire junior), known under the name of Ox and first lord of Nozay and Issé. In 1123, the Duc Conan confirms with the church of Nantes the possession of the church of Abbaretz.

In June 1230, Brient the Ox, known as " Vieux" , lord of Issé, fact gift with the Abbey Cistercien Notre-Dame de Melleray, for the safety of its heart, of a ground which it has in Abbaretz. The monks of this Monastère build there a barn and a vault, dedicated to holy Marguerite. About same time, Geoffroy of the Trent gives up, its side to the abbey of Melleray, two thirds of all said them his ground of the Forêt of Abbaretz " decimated known ground of foresta of Abbaret ". When the Diocèse of Nantes is divided into archidiaconés and deaneries, the parish of Abbaretz is included/understood in the deanery of Chateaubriant, member of archidiaconé of Mée.

The Fief S composing the seigniory of Abbaretz belonged to several châtellenies:

  • the châtellenie of Issé (strongholds of the Mine, Houx, Trahannière, Herminière and Torraye,…),
  • the châtellenie of Vioreau (strongholds of Liraye, Estival and Bouchetière,…),
  • the Baronnie of Derval,
  • the abbey of Melleray (the Barn of Abbaretz, smallholdings of Holy Marguerite and Féchetaye, Guichardaye, Rouaudière, Herminière…).
The seat of most important the Seigneurie is with the castle of the River which belongs at the origin with the Briant family (or Brient) and which then passes to the hands lords of Chateaubriant, Famille Montmorency, then of the prince of Condé.

One meets successively following names: Abbaretiacum (in 1123), Abbaret (in 1230), Abbarez (in 1270 and 1278), Abbarrez (in 1341), Abbaretz (in 1456), Abbaret (in 1489), Baretz (in 1539), Abbareium (in 1650).
