Abancourt (Northern) is a common French, located in the department of the Northern (59) and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

History

Toponymy

The toponym Abincurt changed with the wire of the centuries ( Abundicurtis in 1139, Abencourt in 1232) to become Abancourt today.

Medieval and modern history

Set fire to first once by plunderers in 1120, the village is again devastated the November 26th 1553 by a fire, caused by the troops of the king Henri II. A fire still touches the village in 1655.

Modern history

During its stay in 1916, Hitler paints a Aquarelle on the gate of the farm Vilain, street of in bottom. This gate was destroyed at the time of the battle of 1918, but the watercolour always exists.

Also destroyed during the combat of 1918, the church Saint Martin is rebuilt with the same site but in the opposite direction. Work lasts close 10 years (of 1923 with 1933), under the impulse of the architect Pierre Leprince-Ringuet. The stone scupltures artificial of the frontage are carried out by Marcel Gaumont according to a process which it itself developed. Interior paintings of the chorus and the nave are the work of Emile Flament who uses the technique of the fresco .

During the Second world war, German installs a Kommandantur in Abancourt.
