Abû Tâlib was a paternal uncle of Mahomet. With his father Abd Al-Muttalib, it raised this one after the death of his mother Amina in 577, his father Abdallah having died shortly after its birth in 570.
Abû Tâlib was the father of the fourth caliph Ali, husband of Fatima and son-in-law of Mahomet.
