a true story ( The Straight Story ) is an American film , British and French carried out by David Lynch and left in 1999.

Synopsis

In 1994, Alvine Straight, 73 years, has a small accident, a fall in its kitchen. His/her Turned pink daughter, stammerer, oblige it to go to consult the doctor. It is understood that the old man is tired a little.

One evening, in full storm, a telephone call resounds in the house. Turned pink takes down, it is Wisconsin where Lyle saw, the brother of Alvine. Lyle had an attack. Alvine, upset, reflects. He has not seen Lyle for 10 years following an argument forces and they do not forgive each other. Finally, Alvin decides to return visit to his/her brother. And it will go there on its lawn mower since it is its only means of transport. It thus gives in state the old machine which is not whereas a heap of rust, manufactures a trailer and takes the road. A long tour of more than 600 km awaits it, of Laurens, Iowa in Mount Zion, Wisconsin.

This film is drawn from a true story as its name indicates it. True the Alvin Straight made this tour in 1994. It will be noted that the original title (The Straight Story) referred at the same time to the real character of the history and in the name of the main character, Alvin Straight. This is not returned in the French title.

The main actor, Richard Farnsworth, was nominated " Best Actor" with the " Academy Awards" and became thus the oldest actor named for this Oscar. It was reached of a cancer during the turning of film and committed suicide the following year, whereas it was 80 years old.
