a question of life or dead ( has off Matter Life and Death ) is a British film carried out by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, left in 1946.

Synopsis

During the Second world war, whereas its flying fortress is crushed in the sea, the major Peter Carter sends an ultimate message to the tower of control. An American young person, named June, of guard this night is the last voice which he will hear before the crash landing.

Here is however that Peter Carter emerges from completely unscathed water. He undertakes at once to find June and continue the course of his life. When its celestial guide (number 71) comes nevertheless to explain to him, embarrassed, why he did not manage to find it in the fog to lead it to the paradise of the aviators and task to convince it that he is not in the order of the things that he is still alive, the officer refuses to follow it and disputes the disastrous destiny which is imposed to him.

In the beginning, a question of life or dead is a film of order. Passed the armistice of 1945, the British and American armies occupied the European territory jointly and the brawls between the soldiers of the two forces were not rare. Also the British army it had ordered with the realizers a film intended to rehabilitate the relations between the two nations.
