Historical and cultural references
This history refers to the myth of the Eldorado (of Spanish el dorado: gilded), which according to the legend would be a mythical region supposed to abound in gold and located in South America. The bank of which it is made mention, the Welser of Augsburg, existed really and is a possession of a family of merchants and bankers whose members are active since the 13th century until our days.
In the same way, the quoted historical characters really existed: Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada was a Spanish explorer, Nikolaus Federmann was a German explorer with the banking service Welser and Sebastián de Belalcázar was a Spanish conquistador. All the three explored the center of Colombia and their forwardings ended indeed up meeting.
