Reception
The opera is a total fiasco and is withdrawn from the poster of evening even, Scala countermanding the remaining programmings. Made green which was in the pit thus heard the reactions of the assistance directly. He recognized itself with criticisms that the failure was partially due to its personal situation. But the cause of the fiasco is also due to the singers who were not adapted to their roles. Made green will not compose any more comedy until the end of its career and it will be necessary to await Falstaff to see the musician obtaining a resounding success with a comic opera. Other representations take place however in Italy during the life of Made green: Venice in 1845, Rome in 1846 and Naples in 1859.

the action is held with the castle of Kelbar in Brittany in 1733
The history tells the adventure of the Polish monarch, the king Stanislas Leszczyński, who hides because of a war of succession. In order to regain its legitimate throne, it sends a French officer, the Belfiore knight, with the castle of the baron Kelbar, the usurper. The baron has recently arranged an political alliance by yielding his daughter, Giulietta, with Rocca, the British treasurer, but Giulietta prefers the nephew of Rocca, Edoardo. Another project of not very desired marriage engages the niece of the baron, the marchioness Poggio, a young widow in love with Belfiore which could not promise to him to marry it in spite of the fact that he likes it. The day when the true king regains finally his throne, the false king hastens to prevent the arranged marriage of Giulietta. However, it is astonished to see the marchioness in Brittany while itself is also astonished by its presence. They mutually pretend not to be recognized and engage in a battle of spirit. The tangle of the intrigues is finally solved.
