AZF Soferti

AZF Soferti is the name of a factory of production of Fertilisant of the group GPN subsidiary of Total.

The factory was located at Low-indre and employed 72 people. AZF Soferti ceased producing fertilizer on Friday, June 30, 2006 and definitively closed on February 28th, 2007. Closing east had with a “disengagement of the market of fertilizer made up” within the framework of a “strategic Repositionnement”.

History

Creation

At the time of the meeting of the municipal council the November 19th 1922, it is emitted a unfavorable opinion with the installation of one of chemicals between Haut-Indre (which counted approximately 500 inhabitants at the time) and Low-Indre. The surrounding communes, Bouguenais, Couëron, the Mountain, Rezé and Saint-Herblain give the same opinion. A committee of resistance collects 1.100 signatures. The 1923, the prefect of Loire-Inferior (Mr. BOUJU) gives his authorization to the establishment of factory of the Compagnie Of Bordeaux arranged in the 1st class of the establishments dangerous, unhealthy and inconvenient.

Construction

Work begins in July 1924 by installation from the ground because the meadows which border the the Loire are easily flooded at the time of the risings. Then construction comes from the first workshops and the railways inside the factory, in 1925. The Compagnie Of Bordeaux inaugurates its factory in March 1926. This construction goes against any logic, the production of chemical matters must be done well off any population.

The factory has a surface of 11 hectares, but as of the design of the project all is envisaged so that one can increase the surface of the company and thus production capacity.

Along the Loire the private pier of the Of Bordeaux one is, which is 75 m long. This wharf makes it possible to remove the unloading of night, which is more painful. The factory accommodates ships going up to 10.000 tons, whose holds are filled with raw materials, i.e. of Phosphate, Pyrite (iron sulfide), of Potassium salt, or nitrates of soda.
