ATR

ATR (Planes of Regional transport, Aerei da Trasporto Regional ) . The planes of the family ATR are manufactured by GIE free - Italy N ATR (Planes of regional transport, Aerei da Trasporto Regionale ) formed by Aérospatiale (today EADS) and AERITALIA (today Alenia Aeronautica, subsidiary of Finmeccanica), each one having 50% of the shares of the GIE.

History

In November 1981, the Aerospace and AERITALIA amalgamate their two projects of regional plane: the November 4th 1981, with Paris, an agreement on the launching of ATR 42, a plane comfortable, easy to make fly and to maintain. In April 1982, the first orders for ATR 42 are placed, by Cimber Air, Command Airways, Littoral Air and Finnair

The program of ATR 42-300, the first of the family, is launched in November 1981. The first prototype stole for the first time the August 16th 1984 and the plane was certified in September 1985 by Italy and France. The December 9th 1985, it is put in business service by the company Littoral Air.

Compared to the prototype S, ATR 42-300 of series have a maximum Masse on takeoff more important and an increased autonomy. ATR 42-320 have different engines for better performances in hot climate. These versions were built until 1996, date on which ATR 42-500 replaced them.

The second plane built by ATR is ATR 72, lengthened version of ATR 42, which entered in service in 1989.

ATR today

With its ATR 42 and ATR 72 of series -500, ATR (Planes of regional transport), whose head office is located at Toulouse, is world leader on the market of the planes Turbopropulseur S of regional transport from 40 to 70 places. On the whole 835 apparatuses were ordered including 375 of series -500 (figures ATR October 2006).

The final assembly is carried out on the site of Toulouse-Blagnac starting from the Fuselage and of the Empennage S manufactured close to Naples (Italy) and of the wing S coming from the factory from Mérignac close to Bordeaux.

ATR 42

ATR 42, the first apparatus manufactured by ATR accomplished its first flight the August 16th 1984 and was brought into service the December 9th 1985. Starting from the initial model, -300, it was produced in several successive versions of which a major revision, model -500 as from 1995. This one is been driven by more powerful engines (PW127E) and offers a much better comfort to the passengers thanks to the reduction of the vibrations (propellers with 6 blades, reinforcement of the fuselage, absorbers).

ATR 42 cargo liner (56  m ³, 5  600  kg) are built or transformed on the basis of ATR 42-300. ATR 42-500 is also proposed in version " Quick-change" allowing to pass quickly from momentary equipment in a compartment cargo liner of 30  m ³.

ATR 72

ATR 72, lengthened version making it possible to accommodate to 74 passengers was brought into service in 1989. He also is available in version any cargo liner (75  m ³, 8  400  kg).

Starting from the initial model, -200, it was improved in several successive versions of which a major revision, model -500 as from 1995. Its version " Quick-change" offer 41  m ³ for freight.
