ARIANE Mnouchkine

Biography

It is the girl of the producer Alexandre Mnouchkine who named his production company according to it: the Films ARIANE.

In March 2007, it signed with 150 intellectuals a text which invites to vote for Ségolène Royal, “against a line of arrogance”, for “a left of hope”. July 25th, 2007, it is named, by the members of the Collège de France (decision ratified by a Presidential decree of the Republic), professeure associated for one period 12 months with the pulpit of Artistic creation. What she refuses initially, by affirming that its nomination validated by Nicolas Sarkozy makes of her “a collaborator of the mode of Nicolas Sarkozy”, for finally accepting the following day while declaring: “I will not make a whim near people whom I admire and whom I love”.

Theater

It begins with the theater in 1959 while assembling a university troop with the Sorbonne with Philippe Léotard. It founds with him the Théâtre of the Sun, troop which settles with the Cartridge factory of Vincennes in 1970.
It was characterized thereafter by the choice from the tackled subjects, often giving to reflect on the human condition, and especially by its settings in very visual scenes (its famous decorations moving presenting the scene under various angles, e.g.), supported by true a " band-son" quasi omnipresent, played on line (on the edge of the scene) by the man Jean-Jacques Lemêtre.
orchestrates In a Community spirit present as of the beginnings of the Theater of the Sun, ARIANE Mnouchkine has as a habit to be present in beginning and end of spectacle, and this, with each representation.

Its first great successes are the Kitchen of Arnold Wesker, then 1789 and the Golden age , of collective creations. Since, it puts in scene the traditional ones (Molière, Shakespeare, etc) and contemporary authors (Helene Cixous, Arnold Wesker, etc) while being often inspired by the Eastern traditions (Indian Théâtre, Japanese, etc).

In 2003, the Theater of the Sun assembles the Last Caravanserai (Odysseys) , made up of two shutters ( the Cruel River and Origines and Destins ), telling episodes of the life of the every day, in Afghanistan, in the North of France in Sangatte, where refugees try to enter clandestinely to England, to try to reach a life which is not accessible for them.

Transitory the , its new spectacle left in 2006, also in two parts (close of 3:15 by part, named here " recueils"), is held this time in France. ARIANE Mnouchkine puts at it in scene sections of life, breaking the rate/rhythm by laughing, corrosive, poignant scenes.

Cinema and television

In the cinema, it takes part in 1964 in the scenario of the Man of Rio of Philippe de Broca. Then, with the Theater of the Sun , it initially launches out in 1974 in the filmed collecting of their spectacle 1789 . It pushes the ambition further and carries out in 1978 a large imposing, impetuous and sumptuous fresco of Molière (with Philippe Caubère in the title role) which will be later issued in 1981 on television in the form of a series of 5 one hour episodes under the title Molière, or the life of an honest man .

It adapts, always for television, two parts of Helene Cixous, the miraculous Night in 1989 and Tambours on the dam in 2003.
