ANZUS

ANZUS (Australia, New Zealand, United States Security Treaty) is a military pact signed with San Francisco on September 1st 1951, between the Australia, the New Zealand and the the United States.

In the beginning, the treaty drew up against the possible rebirth of the Japanese militarism. Then, alliance was based quickly in the American policy of Containment vis-a-vis the development of the Communisme in Asia, in the context of the Cold war. The United States replaced consequently the the United Kingdom like guardian power in the Pacifique.

The treaty provides in particular that the three countries consult each other with respect to the questions of security touching at the Pacifique zone. A permanent organization of consultation was established with the Australian ministry of the foreign affairs, with Canberra.
