AMX-30 is the tank of battle which equipped the French Army during more than 30 years. Built with approximately 2000 specimens (whose half exported) as from 1966, its Châssis was used to develop other armor-plated systems the such tank of breakdown service AMX-30D or the vehicle of carrying of the missile Pluton.
Conceived by AMX Engineering departments of Issy-les-Moulineaux, the AMX-30 is a cast steel assembly and welded, the turret is run of only one part. The crew is composed of 4 men. The pilot sat with before left of the frame, the 3 other members of the crew (the chief of tank and the gunner on the right, the charger on the left) are installed in the turret.
The AMX 30 is brought into service starting from 1967. The first regiment with being equipped was the 503e Tank regiment of combat to Mourmelon, followed 501e to Rambouillet. Those stationed in Germany were equipped by the following series left the workshops of Roanne.
In addition to its gun of 105 mm, the AMX-30 has a coaxial automatic gun of 20 mm, to replace the Mitrailleuse of 12.7 mm origin. An ultimate evolution is the AMX-30 Brennus, which is a AMX-30B2 covered with armor-plates reactive. It is today in the course of replacement in the French Army by the Char Leclerc.
