AEG J.I
AEG J.I
After experiments successful during the
Battle of Verdun in 1916, the Flieger Infantry claimed the constitution of escadrilles of tactical support, whose equipment became priority. To meet this urgent need AEG developed starting from
AEG C.IV a two-seater of co-operation with engine Benz Bz IV of 200 ch, whose crew and engine were protected from the shootings of the ground by 390 kg of shielding. The floor of the back station had an opening allowing 2 machine-guns LMG 08/15 of 7,92 mm to draw to the bottom and forwards with an angle of 45°. The Parabellum of the observer was preserved, but removed LMG 08/15 of cap. Each weapon had 500 blows. This plane was produced in series in 1917 while waiting for the arrival of more specific machines, like
AEG DJ.I.
AEG J.II
Derived from the precedent, recognizable on its surfaces of order being redrawn.
Production
A total of 609
AEG J.I and
AEG J.II were built. A certain number were converted into commercial aircraft after the war.
