AEG D.I

The single-seat biplane of hunting AEG D.I was built primarily out of cloth-lined steel tubes. First hunter produced by AEG, it received an engine cooled by water Daimler D IIIa of 160ch and 2 synchronized machine-guns LMG 08/15 of 7,9 Misters Three prototypes were built, the first outgoing one of factory in May 1917. It carried out its in-flight tests between August and next September, after a lengthening of the fuselage of 40 cm. The apparatus was delicate to control, and the first prototype was crushed during a trial flight, but D.I seemed promising, and a series of 17 specimens (4400/17) was ordered for operational tests by the Jasta 14. September 5th, 1917 a second prototype was crushed, involving the cancellation of the order. The last two prototypes, sometimes indicated D.II and D.III, were characterized by side radiators.
