In the Greek Mythology, Acis is a young shepherd of Sicily, wire of the god Pan and nymph Symaethis, which was liked Néréide Galatée.
It was killed by the Cyclops Polyphème, which, jealous to have surprised the two lovers, crushed it under a rock. Galatée (or Poséidon) then changed the blood which ran its wounds in river.
