9th stage of the Tour de France 2005
The 9th stage of the Tour de France 2005 of the July 10th 2005 connected the town of Gérardmer in the the Vosges to Mulhouse in Alsace. Of a 171 km length, with the rise of six collars whose in particular collars of the Large Balloon and Balloon of Alsace, it is a stage of mountain with final of fifteen kilometers on dish.
Michael Rasmussen took the initiative as a recluse with an offensive at the beginning of the stage with the Col of Gross Pierre. With the Balloon of Alsace the French Christophe Moreau and the German Jens Voigt leave the Peloton in their turn to try to catch up with Michael Rasmussen. In spite of their joint efforts, going as far as making await Christophe Moreau at the time of a mechanical problem of her one day old partner, Michael Rasmussen manages all the same to preserve her advance and to finish the stage as a winner. It precedes Jens Voigt and Christophe Moreau 3 minutes and in addition gains the shirt with pea of the mountain. The final classification was also modified allotting the yellow jersey to Jens Voigt and the second place of the general with Christophe Moreau, Lance Armstrong is relegated in 3rd position, at 2 minutes.
The arrival of Mulhouse concludes the first part of the Tour de France 2005, the day of July 11th being one day of rest. The runners leave Mulhouse the evening even in the plane in direction of Grenoble for the 10 {{E}} stage of Tuesday July 12th 2005.
