9th regiment of marines

The 9th Regiment of Marines (9th RIMa) is a Régiment Troupes of navy (Army) of the French Army , currently stationed in French Guiana, at the same time on Cayenne, with the Loubère district (staff and principal portion) and on a river detachment on the Maroni, with Saint-Jean-of-Maroni the (common of Saint-Laurent-of-Maroni the), on one of the sites of old the bagne.

9th RIMa is the heir to the regiment of walk of Tonkin, the 9 {{E}} Régiment of Colonial Infantry and of the 9th battalion of marines (created in 1976 in Guyana) from which it is resulting.

  • January 23rd 1888: Regiment of walk nº 2 of Tonkin
  • March 10th 1890: creation of the 9th RIMa with the Tonkin, by transformation of the regiment of walk n° 2
  • January 1st 1901: becomes the ''' 9 {{E}} regiment of colonial infantry ''', it takes part in the maintenance of peace in the area tonkinoise
  • March 10th, 1945: dissolution of the 9th RIC
  • September 16th, 1945: creation of the Battalion of walk of the 9th RIC
  • October 15th, 1946: dissolution of the Battalion of walk in Indo-China
  • April 18th, 1956: rebirth of the 9th RIC and participation in the operations of Algeria (become since War of Algeria), in Kabylie
  • December 1st, 1958: becomes again 9th RIMa and form new the ''' 3 {{E}} RIMa ''' starting from I/9e RIMa
  • March 31st, 1963: dissolution of 9th RIMa
  • April 1st, 1963: becomes the 24e RIMa/9e Bataillon of Marines
  • July 1st, 1964: dissolution
  • September 1st, 1976: creation of the 9th BIMa (battalion of marines) in Guyana

Mission and Organization

9th RIMa is an operational regiment of infantry and support (it supports the higher command of the French forces in Guyana) - which fulfills a double mission in a typically South American environment. Integrated into its environment thanks to recruitment, with its establishments in creole medium, country Amerindian Bushi-Nengué and and thanks to its neighbors surinamais and Brésil iens, it evolves/moves in a physical environment marked by great elongations and an equatorial climate testing which make department an exceptional framework of instruction of drive and work. Being pressed on a permanent base, mainly resulting from the troops of navy but cash from the soldiers from all the weapons and services, the regiment accommodates 70% of personnel on mission of short duration. Its experts of the equatorial medium develop a federator project of school of the forest and river with the profit of the 1.380 turnings which are useful in its rows each year.

9th RIMa, within the general framework of the assertion of national sovereignty in this French department of South America, has a double mission within a framework interarmées:

Structures:

9th RIMa is composed of six companies stationed on Cayenne and Saint-Jean-of-Maroni:

  • 1 company of command and logistics;
  • 1 company of general headquarter;
  • 1 company of maintenance;
  • 1 company forest;
  • 1 company of reserve;
  • 2 companies river and nautical cell stationed at Midsummer's Day of Maroni.

High-speed motorboats outboard motor boat, Dugout S (of Amerindian type, built by Noirs chestnuts which lives along the Maroni), barge, station of shooting Milan, stations of shooting Eryx, mortars of 120 mm, machine-guns of 12,7 mm MAC M, light armament of infantry.
