Othon III names his/her cousin and chaplain Brunon de Carinthie pope (Gregoire V) and is made crown emperor by him.

October 24th: Beginning of the reign of Robert II the Piles, king de France (fine in 1031). It succeeds his father Hugues Capet. Married against its sandstone with Rosala, he repudiates it to marry Berthe of Burgundy into 996.

January 1st: Legislation of Basile II against feudality: to fight against the power of the land aristocracy of Anatolia, Basile II interdict the customers and the land confiscations but does not manage to break the power of the big families. Later, Basile II institutes the allèlengyon which consists in attaching the powerful ones to tax communes without their conferring the rights of them to make pay by the rich person the tax of poorest. These measurements will not survive by the reign of Basile II.

October 13rd: Beginning of the reign with the Cairo of the caliph fatimide Al-Hakim Bi-Amr Allah, (end in 1021).
