  • the count Guillaume of Béziers and Agde makes gift with his/her Garsinde daughter of the city of Béziers and with his Arsinde wife of the city of Agde, with the episcopal rights. Raymond of Carcassonne will marry Garsinde de Béziers.

  • Gerbert d' Aurillac (future pope Sylvestre II ), arrived in 972, to Rheims, directs the school Capitulaire.

  • New wave of Danish raids against the England. Second raid on the the Thames.

Eastern Europe

  • January 1st: The Rus' of Kiev adopt the Calendrier Julien.
  • Mieszko Ier of Poland appendix the Silesia and the area of Cracow to the detriment of the Czech princes of the family of the Slavnik (990 - 1038. To protect its independence, it makes gift of its kingdom to the the Holy See, hoping that his/her son would obtain from sovereign pontiff a royal crown.
  • In Bohemia, tension enters the Slavnik and the Přemyslides.

Art & culture

  • the séfarade Jeuda Ben Sheshet, raises Dunash Ben Labrat, writes a “Answer” to the Gaonims of Babylon, to defend rabbinical orthodoxy against the Karaïtes, which do not recognize the Talmud (970 -990).

  • Rebuilding of Saint-Germain-of-Meadows to Paris (porch and bell-tower).
  • Fulbert founds the episcopal school of Chartres.
  • Construction of the Church of the Dormition (known as “of the dîme”) to Kiev (fine in 996).
