- January 1st: The Rus' of Kiev adopt the Calendrier Julien.
- Mieszko Ier of Poland appendix the Silesia and the area of Cracow to the detriment of the Czech princes of the family of the Slavnik (990 - 1038. To protect its independence, it makes gift of its kingdom to the the Holy See, hoping that his/her son would obtain from sovereign pontiff a royal crown.
- In Bohemia, tension enters the Slavnik and the Přemyslides.

the séfarade Jeuda Ben Sheshet, raises Dunash Ben Labrat, writes a “Answer” to the Gaonims of Babylon, to defend rabbinical orthodoxy against the Karaïtes, which do not recognize the Talmud (970 -990).
