- June 1st: the Council of Charroux, close to Poitiers, decides to excommunicate, with general approval, any individual who would have stripped a peasant of his goods or maltreats a disarmed clerk. Other councils are held with Narbonne and in Aquitaine, where one makes lend oath of peace to the feudal warriors whom one starts to name knights.
- the pope makes sign the first Truce of God between Ethelred of England and Richard Ier of Normandy.
