Western Europe

  • December: Beginning of the Pontificate of Jean XIV (fine in 985).

  • December 25th: Beginning of the reign of Otton (Othon) III, Germanic Roman Emperor (fine in 1002).
    • Othon II dies of the Malaria. His/her son is only three years old. His/her mother Theophano and her grandmother Adélaïde ensure regency. She leave him an intact empire. Othon III will devote all its reign to the continuation of a dream: restoration of the empire of Constantin and Charlemagne while making reside the emperor and the pope in the Eternal City. The forces of monarchy will wear there (999).
  • With died of Othon II of Germanic, king de Francie Western Lothaire invades the Lorraine again. It takes Verdun of which the weather is captive the bishop Godefroy.
