Samuel Cornish (1790 - 1859) was an abolitionist Afro-American, Journaliste. He was born in the county from Sussex with the Delaware free parents.

In 1815, it goes to Philadelphia then in 1821 to New York, where it organizes a congregation of Presbytérien S blacks.

With its ordination in 1822, its parish New Demeter Street Presbyterian Church becomes the first black church presbytérienne of the United States.

In 1833, it joined the American Anti-Slavery Society, american company against the Esclavage.

In 1887, it founds with John Russwurm the Freedom' S Journal .
