  • May 14th: Beginning of the Pontificate of the antipape Benoit V Grammairien (fine in 965). The pope Jean XII, deposited in 963, takes again Rome but is assassinated whereas Othon I {{er}} prepared to intervene.
  • June 21st: Othon deposits the antipape Benoît V Grammairien, elected by the Romans, and exiles it with Hamburg.
    • Following a popular revolt, the prefect of Rome and the chiefs of districts are hung.

  • Beginning of the reign of Sviatoslav I {{er}} Igorievitch, prince of Kiev (fine in 972).
    • Olga Prekrasa, forced by a pagan reaction, yields the capacity to his/her son Sviatoslav, the first prince of the dynasty Riourik ide to bear a Slavic name.
  • the Byzantine emperor Nicéphore II Phokas prohibits the donations with the monasteries to fight against the great fields.
  • the Byzantine take again the island of Cyprus.
