Western Europe
- Following a revolt of the nobility, Othon I {{er}} is essential in Lorraine that he entrusts to his brother Brunon, archbishop of Cologne, which takes the title of duke (fine in 959).
- the chief Viking Haraldr seizes Dol, but is pushed back by the Breton forces.
- the Venetian ones settle with Ravenne.
Worsen Byzantine
- the Petchenègues are combined with Igor of Kiev against Byzance.
- Nouveau treaty enters the Russians and Byzance. The commercial clauses are more restrictive than in 907 (Romain Lécapène) and the Russians will not have more right to spend the winter to Byzance nor even to Berezany, but will have to set out again for Kiev each autumn. The Russians commit themselves militarily supporting the Byzantines for protection of the Chersonèse and vis-a-vis the Bulgares.
