8th stage of the Tour de France 2005

The 8th stage of the Tour de France 2005 was held the July 9th 2005 between the German city of Pforzheim and the town of Gérardmer in the the Vosges on a distance of 235 km.

The Tour de France passed by the Wine trail before approaching the main difficulty of the stage, the Col of Schlucht with slope of 16 km to 4 5% of uneven. An escaped of 6 runners including/understanding Nicolas Jalabert, Cédric Vasseur, Juan Antonio Flecha, Pieter Weening, Salvatore Commesso and Ronny Scholz could take the broad one in the last kilometers. Behind, the leaders fought and Andreas Klöden is parvienu to outdistance Lance Armstrong. The final one was played sprint with a variation of a few millimetres between Pieter Weening which carries it in front of Andreas Klöden.

The other escaped ones were taken again by an yellow jersey group of a score of runners which outdistanced the Peloton one minute at the time of the rise of the collar of Schlucht. The yellow jersey remains the property of Lance Armstrong in spite of the absence of its fellow-members to help it at the time of the end of the rise.
