The 8th Regiment of Artillery is created on July 20th, 1792 and passes to ground artillery on August 27th, 1792. A battalion is stationed with Rennes in addition to the companies always stationed in the colonies.

The 8th Regiment of Artillery to Foot is created in 1794, with the formation of the 2nd battalion. Of 1815 with 1848

The Artillery Regiment to Foot of Rennes is created on May 21st, 1816. It holds garrison in Rennes (1816-1819) then Toulouse (1819-1820). August 16th, 1820, it becomes again the 8th Regiment of Artillery to Foot , and holds garrison in Toulouse (1820-1825), then Valence (1825-1829) before being dissolved in Toulouse on August 5th, 1829. It reappears on May 21st, 1830 under name 8th Regiment of Artillery . It holds garrison in Rennes (1830-1831), with Fère (1831-1835), with Metz (1835-1840), in Toulouse (1840-1844), Besancon (1844-1849), Metz (1849-1850), Fère (1850-1853) and Vincennes (1853-1854). Second Empire and War of 1870

March 16th, 1854, the 8th Regiment of Artillery is transformed into 17th Artillery Regiment with Horse . But following the decree of February 14th, 1854, the 8th Regiment of Assembled Artillery is formed in Toulouse on March 16th. It takes it again round of the garrisons quickly: Toulouse (1854-1857), Rennes (1857-1861), Douai (1861-1865), Metz (1865-1868), Fère (1868-1870). Of 1871 with 1914

New the 8th Regiment of Artillery is created on May 10th, 1872. It is installed on several garrisons. From 1872 to 1873, it is with Lille, Calais and Surface-on-the-Lily. From 1873 to 1883, it is with the Châlons-S-Marne, Toul, Longwy, Montmédy.

September 1st, 1883, it becomes the 8th Regiment of Field artillery . From 1883 to 1887 its deposit is in Châlons-sur-Marne, of 1887 to 1894 the regiment stations with Nancy, Toul and Châlons. From 1894 to 1914, it is tightened on Nancy.

First World War

The regiment constitutes the support fire of the 11 {{E}} Division of Infantry (the iron division), of the 20 {{E}} Army corps ordered by the general Foch. Its exemplary control in Lorraine in 1914 and with Verdun in 1916 is worth to him two mentions in dispatches and the attribution of the Fourragère of the Military Cross.

Inter-war period

With IIIe Groups 8th and two other groups of the 264 {{E}}, it is made up the Régiment of Artillery of Walk 8/264 with Mailly from March 5th, 1919 to May 31st, 1919. But on June 1st, 1919, the 8th Regiment of Field artillery is recreated. It is with Nancy, Toul and Lunéville in 1919, then Nancy and Toul in 1920. Then the regiment leaves in occupation to Germany.

  • 1919: occupation of the the Saar from June 21st to July 28th.
  • 1920: occupation of Frankfurt from April 3rd to 30th.
  • 1921: occupation of Crefeld from May 12th to September 20th.
  • 1923-1924: Occupation of the Ruhr (Duisburg) from January 11th, 1923 to January 26th, 1924.

March 1st, 1923, the regiment becomes the 8th Regiment of Artillery Divisional . It stations in Nancy of 1923 to 1940.

Its campaigns for this period:

  • 1925-1927: Syria (2nd and 4th bies) of August 1925 in April 1927; Damas; Djebel Druze from March in September 1926. These two batteries pass to the 19 {{E}} on their return in April 1927.

Second world war

Marketing year 1939-1940:

It is dissolved in Clermont-Ferrand in July 1940.

Reconstituted on January 1st, 1945 in a structure with three groups, it is with Saint-Mihiel in April 1945. Some elements take part at the end of the May campaign in Germany: the 1st Group with Offenburg; the 2nd Group with Rastadt then with Emmendingen on June 5th; from July to October the 3rd Group and the staff of I/8 are with Offenburg and Kehl. July 17th, the 2nd Group makes movement on Strasbourg.

Of 1945 at our days

  • on April 15th, 1946, the 8°RA is tiny room to a Group, the 1/8ème RA. In June 1946, it is in Lambach, Drachenbronn, Langensoultzbach. May 2nd, 1947, it is with the Drouot district in Nancy.
  • the 8th RA is reconstituted on April 1st, 1949 in a battery of command and 4 groups. From April 1st to October 1st it is thus distributed: the battery of command and IV/8ème in NANCY; I/8ème with HAGUENAU; II/8ème with the FERE; III/8ème in Mill-the-Metz. Then of October 1st, 1949 at 1955, only II/8ème changes garrison into settling with VERDUN.
It will take part then in the operations in North Africa. It will be in Algeria of 1955 to 1963, in the East Constantinois, within the 2nd DIM. Ier Groupe will be thus deployed: Akbou (in the south-west of Candle) from June 11th to October 7th, 1955; Guelma, Duvivier (in the south of Bône) of October 8th, 1955 in the month of March 1957). It takes part in the Stopping on the Tunisian border with Sakiet (in the east of Souk Ahras) of March 1957 in September 1962. It is in Blandan (is of Bône) from September 29th to October 23rd, 1962. IVe Groupe is into Large-Kabylie (in the North-East of Tizi-Ouzou) from June 26th to October 11th, 1955). It is in Blandan (is of Bône) where it settles from August 11th, 196 to October 5th, 1963, that it is transformed into 8th Group of Artillery on October 1st, 1962. It is with Bône-the-Saltworks from October 6th, 1963 to November 12th, 1963. On its return in metropolis, the 8th Group of Artillery is dissolved on November 30th, 1963 with Sissonne.
  • the 8th Artillery Regiment is recreated on May 16th, 1964 with Commercy.
  • 1991 : Participation in the War of the Gulf. A section of mini-planes of tactical recognition without pilot (M.A.R.T.), in the course of experimentation with the regiment, is setting-up in the few days which precede the terrestrial action then is conveyed for the theater of operation. The mission lasts from February 8th to April 1st, 1991. The regiment having been strongly solicited to provide its personnel engaged to other units of division (the 10th Armor-plated Division), it is called upon personnel coming from the 403ème Régiment of Artillery of Chaumont. It is during this operation that the requirement in the slow drone is consolidated to acquire in real-time the information by images. The lesson drawn from the success of this experiment will direct the choice towards the Crécerelle drones which will equip thereafter the 6th Group with the 7th Artillery Regiment, then the 7th Artillery Regiment until its transformation into 61ème Régiment of Artillery.

The 8th RA today

Missions

Artillery regiment of the 7th Armor-plated Brigade, the 8th RA is charged with L `support fire of the units in the course of action. Of 1871 with 1914

New the 8th Regiment of Artillery is created on May 10th, 1872. It is installed on several garrisons. From 1872 to 1873, it is with Lille, Calais and Surface-on-the-Lily. From 1873 to 1883, it is with the Châlons-S-Marne, Toul, Longwy, Montmédy.

September 1st, 1883, it becomes the 8th Regiment of Field artillery . From 1883 to 1887 its deposit is in Châlons-sur-Marne, of 1887 to 1894 the regiment stations with Nancy, Toul and Châlons. From 1894 to 1914, it is tightened on Nancy.

First World War

The regiment constitutes the support fire of the 11 {{E}} Division of Infantry (the iron division), of the 20 {{E}} Army corps ordered by the general Foch. Its exemplary control in Lorraine in 1914 and with Verdun in 1916 is worth to him two mentions in dispatches and the attribution of the Fourragère of the Military Cross.

But on June 1st, 1919, the 8th Regiment of Field artillery is recreated. It is with Nancy, Toul and Lunéville in 1919, then Nancy and Toul in 1920. Then the regiment leaves in occupation to Germany.

  • 1991 : Participation in the War of the Gulf. A section of mini-planes of tactical recognition without pilot (M.A.R.T.), in the course of experimentation with the regiment, is setting-up in the few days which precede the terrestrial action then is conveyed for the theater of operation. The mission lasts from February 8th to April 1st, 1991. The regiment having been strongly solicited to provide its personnel engaged to other units of division (the 10th Armor-plated Division), it is called upon personnel coming from the 403ème Régiment of Artillery of Chaumont. It is during this operation that the requirement in the slow drone is consolidated to acquire in real-time the information by images. The lesson drawn from the success of this experiment will direct the choice towards the Crécerelle drones which will equip thereafter the 6th Group with the 7th Artillery Regiment, then the 7th Artillery Regiment until its transformation into 61ème Régiment of Artillery.

Created by the royal decree of October 24th, 1784, the Royal Corps of Artillery of the Colonies is made up on April 1st, 1785, in 5 brigades of 4 companies chacunes. Of 1815 with 1848

The Artillery Regiment to Foot of Rennes is created on May 21st, 1816. It holds garrison in Rennes (1816-1819) then Toulouse (1819-1820). August 16th, 1820, it becomes again the 8th Regiment of Artillery to Foot , and holds garrison in Toulouse (1820-1825), then Valence (1825-1829) before being dissolved in Toulouse on August 5th, 1829. It reappears on May 21st, 1830 under name 8th Regiment of Artillery . It holds garrison in Rennes (1830-1831), with Fère (1831-1835), with Metz (1835-1840), in Toulouse (1840-1844), Besancon (1844-1849), Metz (1849-1850), Fère (1850-1853) and Vincennes (1853-1854). Its campaigns for this period:
  • 1823: Forwarding of Spain (1st with 8th cies): Corogne; Trocadero.
  • 1828-1833: participation in the Forwarding of Morée to support the Greek insurrectionists at the time of the War of Greek independence. Catch of the castle of Morée. Sit of Coron.
  • 1832: Head office of Antwerp (2nd and 10th with 14th batteries).
  • 1832 - 1854: Algeria (15th battery).

Second Empire and War of 1870

March 16th, 1854, the 8th Regiment of Artillery is transformed into 17th Artillery Regiment with Horse . But following the decree of February 14th, 1854, the 8th Regiment of Assembled Artillery is formed in Toulouse on March 16th. It takes it again round of the garrisons quickly: Toulouse (1854-1857), Rennes (1857-1861), Douai (1861-1865), Metz (1865-1868), Fère (1868-1870). Then the rate/rhythm accelerates: Vincennes on September 6th, 1870, Rennes on September 11th, Saint-Omer on March 11th, 1871, then Saint-Omer and Surface-S-Lily on April 28th, 1871.

Of 1871 with 1914

New the 8th Regiment of Artillery is created on May 10th, 1872. It is installed on several garrisons. From 1872 to 1873, it is with Lille, Calais and Surface-on-the-Lily. From 1873 to 1883, it is with the Châlons-S-Marne, Toul, Longwy, Montmédy.

September 1st, 1883, it becomes the 8th Regiment of Field artillery . From 1883 to 1887 its deposit is in Châlons-sur-Marne, of 1887 to 1894 the regiment stations with Nancy, Toul and Châlons. From 1894 to 1914, it is tightened on Nancy.

First World War

The regiment constitutes the support fire of the 11 {{E}} Division of Infantry (the iron division), of the 20 {{E}} Army corps ordered by the general Foch. Its exemplary control in Lorraine in 1914 and with Verdun in 1916 is worth to him two mentions in dispatches and the attribution of the Fourragère of the Military Cross.

  • 1918: Verdun from January 29th to March 23rd; Picardy (O. Amines) in reserve from April 28th to May 30th; Matz (O. Ressons) from June 6th to 13rd, in the west of Soissons from June 19th to August 12th; in the North-East of Vic-s-Aisne from August 16th to 25th; The Wing (Coucy) from September 1st to 15th; Flandres (Roulers) from October 7th to 17th; The Lily (Deinze) from October 21st to 31st; The Scheldt (NR. Audenarde) from November 3rd to 11th.

Inter-war period

With IIIe Groups 8th and two other groups of the 264 {{E}}, it is made up the Régiment of Artillery of Walk 8/264 with Mailly from March 5th, 1919 to May 31st, 1919. But on June 1st, 1919, the 8th Regiment of Field artillery is recreated. It is with Nancy, Toul and Lunéville in 1919, then Nancy and Toul in 1920. Then the regiment leaves in occupation to Germany.

  • 1919: occupation of the the Saar from June 21st to July 28th.
  • 1920: occupation of Frankfurt from April 3rd to 30th.
  • 1921: occupation of Crefeld from May 12th to September 20th.
  • 1923-1924: Occupation of the Ruhr (Duisburg) from January 11th, 1923 to January 26th, 1924.

March 1st, 1923, the regiment becomes the 8th Regiment of Artillery Divisional . It stations in Nancy of 1923 to 1940.

Its campaigns for this period:

  • 1925-1927: Syria (2nd and 4th bies) of August 1925 in April 1927; Damas; Djebel Druze from March in September 1926. These two batteries pass to the 19 {{E}} on their return in April 1927.

Second world war

Marketing year 1939-1940:

  • 1939: Face of Lorraine (O. Sarreguemines) from August 27th to November 15th; Operations on Blies, forest of Warndt from September 9th to October 2nd; Delme from December 1st to March 26th, 1940.
  • 1940: Sarre (E.Saint-Avold) from March 30th to May 18th; Face of Aisne (E. Compiegne) from May 22nd to June 10th; Crépy-in-Valois from June 11th to 12th; Reprocess Center: channel of Ourq (O. Meaux) on June 13rd; The Seine (Fontainebleau) June 14th and 15th; The Loire (Châteauneuf) from June 16th to 18th; Salbris on June 19th; Indre on June 20th, Nontron on June 24th.

It is dissolved in Clermont-Ferrand in July 1940.

Reconstituted on January 1st, 1945 in a structure with three groups, it is with Saint-Mihiel in April 1945. Some elements take part at the end of the May campaign in Germany: the 1st Group with Offenburg; the 2nd Group with Rastadt then with Emmendingen on June 5th; from July to October the 3rd Group and the staff of I/8 are with Offenburg and Kehl. July 17th, the 2nd Group makes movement on Strasbourg.

Of 1945 at our days

  • on April 15th, 1946, the 8°RA is tiny room to a Group, the 1/8ème RA. In June 1946, it is in Lambach, Drachenbronn, Langensoultzbach. May 2nd, 1947, it is with the Drouot district in Nancy.
  • the 8th RA is reconstituted on April 1st, 1949 in a battery of command and 4 groups. From April 1st to October 1st it is thus distributed: the battery of command and IV/8ème in NANCY; I/8ème with HAGUENAU; II/8ème with the FERE; III/8ème in Mill-the-Metz. Then of October 1st, 1949 at 1955, only II/8ème changes garrison into settling with VERDUN.
It will take part then in the operations in North Africa. It will be in Algeria of 1955 to 1963, in the East Constantinois, within the 2nd DIM. Ier Groupe will be thus deployed: Akbou (in the south-west of Candle) from June 11th to October 7th, 1955; Guelma, Duvivier (in the south of Bône) of October 8th, 1955 in the month of March 1957). It takes part in the Stopping on the Tunisian border with Sakiet (in the east of Souk Ahras) of March 1957 in September 1962. It is in Blandan (is of Bône) from September 29th to October 23rd, 1962. IVe Groupe is into Large-Kabylie (in the North-East of Tizi-Ouzou) from June 26th to October 11th, 1955). Then it is in Randon, Combes (south-eastern of Bône) from October 13rd, 1955 to March 11th, 1957. It takes part in the Stopping on the Tunisian border, in the south east of Souk Ahras: Gambetta, Ouenza of March 12th, 1957 in November 1960; Souk Ahras, Ain Zana of November 1960 in July 1962. It is in Blandan (is of Bône) where it settles from August 11th, 196 to October 5th, 1963, that it is transformed into 8th Group of Artillery on October 1st, 1962. It is with Bône-the-Saltworks from October 6th, 1963 to November 12th, 1963. On its return in metropolis, the 8th Group of Artillery is dissolved on November 30th, 1963 with Sissonne.
  • the 8th Artillery Regiment is recreated on May 16th, 1964 with Commercy.
  • 1991 : Participation in the War of the Gulf. A section of mini-planes of tactical recognition without pilot (M.A.R.T.), in the course of experimentation with the regiment, is setting-up in the few days which precede the terrestrial action then is conveyed for the theater of operation. The mission lasts from February 8th to April 1st, 1991. The regiment having been strongly solicited to provide its personnel engaged to other units of division (the 10th Armor-plated Division), it is called upon personnel coming from the 403ème Régiment of Artillery of Chaumont. It is during this operation that the requirement in the slow drone is consolidated to acquire in real-time the information by images. The lesson drawn from the success of this experiment will direct the choice towards the Crécerelle drones which will equip thereafter the 6th Group with the 7th Artillery Regiment, then the 7th Artillery Regiment until its transformation into 61ème Régiment of Artillery.

Missions

Artillery regiment of the 7th Armor-plated Brigade, the 8th RA is charged with L `support fire of the units in the course of action.
