The Middle East

  • the Caliph and the Byzantine Empereur recognize Achot Large the Bagratouni as king of Arménie.
    • Achot Bagratouni is named successively by the Caliph prince of the princes, governor, and finally king of Arménie. The Byzantine emperor Basile Ier, which does not give up its theoretical suzerainty on Arménie, sends in his turn a crown with Achot, which during the five years of its reign, maintains the friendly relations with Byzance as well as with the caliph.
    • the dynasty of the Bagratouni (Bagratide S) restores the kingdom of Arménie and directs the country during 9th and the 10th century. Many churches and vast systems of irrigation remain us of this time.

    • Since half of the 9th century, the Parisian ones had to face several attacks of the Vikings who do not hesitate to burn the city, as it was the case in 856.
    • Come from the area of Leuwen, of important forces Normans (30 to 40.000 men) flowed towards Paris by terrestrial way, and already seized Rouen and the fortress of Pontoise.
    • In parallel, a naval quota of 700 ships went up the the Seine. Siegfried ( Sigfredhr ), the chief of the Viking S, come with their families, requires to cross Paris to settle front in France. The local authorities refuse.
    • This time, the Norman ones adopt a different strategy: they decide to put the seat in front of the city. Eudes, count de Paris and the bishop Goslin firmly defends the besieged city, while the Norman ones devastate the surrounding country (November 885 - October 886). Charles III the Large, arrived tardily with reinforcements, grants finally the right-of-way to the Vikings and offers 700 pounds of money to them so that they raise the seat.

    • the monks of Saint-Wandrille, to flee the Viking S, take refuge close to Chartres.
    • Assassination of Norman the Godfried, Duke of Western Plank, on order of Charles the Large one for treason with the word given.

  • Méthode had indicated to succeed to him as archbishop of Sirmium, Gorzad, had been born in Moravie. The pope Etienne VI condemns his liturgy again. A violent reaction anti-Byzantine bursts in the country. The frank missionaries push its disciples out of Moravie, or sell them like slaves. Naoum and Clément take refuge at the Bulgares where they are well accommodated by Boris with Preslav, others pass to Ohrid in Macedonia and Dalmatie where they establish the slavon, which is maintained until the 18th century.
