- September 25th: Basile assassinates Michel III and founds the dynasty Macedonian (867 - 1057).
- At the end of September, the patriarch of Constantinople Photios is deposited by Basile in favor of Ignace, which is reinstalled the November 23rd (fine provisional of the Schisme of the East).
- November: Beginning of the reign of Basile Ier the Macedonian, Byzantine Emperor (fine in 886).
