- Creation of an official institute of translation to Baghdad.
- Under the impulse of Al-Mamun creates for itself in Baghdad a “house of wisdom” ( Bayt Al-hikma ), on the model of the hellenistic libraries, which attracts the scientists (astronomers, mathematicians, thinkers, well-read men, translators). Greek texts (philosophy and science), pehlvis and Indians are translated and placed at the disposal of the Moslems. The translations are accompanied by reflections and of comment and a new form of literature appears.
