- Foundation of the kingdom of the Kampuchea by Jayavarman II (fine of reign v. 836). It makes the unit of the Khmer and founds the town of Angkor. It rejects the suzerainty of the Çailendra of Java (it remained until worms 790 in Java) and inaugurates the worship of the god-king (devarãjã), binding the royalty to the divine capacity of Siva.
- the emperor of the Japan makes it possible to the monk Saichō to go on the continent while uniting to an official mission (802/805). In China, it contacts a new Buddhist school, the “Terrasse of the Sky” (Tendai), which professes that each being, even inanimate, carries the natural of Buddha and can arrive one day at the Illumination.

October 31st: Following a military coup d'etat, the Byzantine empress Irene Athenian the is détrônée by her Minister for Finance Nicéphore which becomes emperor of Byzance under the name of Nicéphore Ier Logothète (title corresponding to Minister for Finance). Irene is exiled with Lesbos where she dies in August 803.
